Greater Aegis

Welcome all to the story of my OC who is, funnily enough, really slightly based off of items from SMITE! The prospect of items that would grant such immeasurable power (for a short time of course, even I will uphold the balance that is kept there) is just begging to have a somewhat intricate story be created, and so here I am, and yes, I know the references are kinda too obvious, but I love them none the less. So without further ado...

Name:
Greater Aegis (although frequently called Aegis)

Age:
17

Race:
Unicorn

Gender:
Female

Family Title:
The Gilded Guardians

Family Crest:
The Aegis

Cutie Mark:
A golden crystal with three lighter gold rings around it

Appearance:
She is covered by a very fine, pale yellow coat and a luscious light blond mane that is bundled halfway down, to prevent it from spilling to the floor completely, yet still continues as a short, braided extension. Her tail is completely braided in the same fashion as her mane's "tail". Her eyes glow a fierce, brilliant blue, which match her Aegis Pendant. She is rather large for her age, easily passable as a full grown adult, and is still growing ever so slightly. Her posture is a blend of her family's trademark guarded pose mixed with her own friendly stance. She also dons a cloak that is made of a mix of two durable hides(donated of course), that shines a gold flecked blue.

Personality:
Those she has managed show that she is more open then most of her lineage speak of her as a proud, yet casual mare who is easy to warm up to, insurmountably dependable, and willing to lend a helping hoof to even strangers without hesitation or reward. That is not to say that she is a pushover, for those who have had the misfortune of disgracing her or her family's name have seen the wrath they posses. However, she can tell the difference between friendly banter and proper insults .

Backstory:
Aegis was born into a royal family that had a large dominion over a sea of rolling green hills and a flourishing forest. The family, however, had a more humble beginning. Long ago, they were a part of a grand empire that held several houses, of which were led by the Ancients, various idols of power that each held a near god-like mastery of one field of magic or another. Aegis' family resided under the the Idol of Protection, known as The Aegis. The Aegis stood for the longevity of life, how, no matter what, it's resilience allows it to grow and prosper even in the bleakest of places. Those born under it's brilliant rays were hearty, healthy, lived longer than normal lives, and shared a bewildering amount of skill in the art of defense, unicorn, pegasi and earth pony alike. Unfortunately, a cataclysmic event nearly destroyed everything and caused each of the Clans to scatter across the land. Of course The Aegis guided and protected the Clans as they fled, ensuring them all safe passage, and the other Idols did what they could to help everyone.
This did not mean all was well. Many of the Clans began to question the powers of not only themselves, but the Idols too. They knew they did all they could, but the ponies felt as though they themselves were held accountable for not being able to uphold their empire. One by one, the Clans broke apart. While some stayed true to the Idol and continued to learn under their care, others left in search of greater meaning within their Idol's power, wanting to further a certain aspect of their blessings. Aegis and her mother were one of those who stayed alongside The Aegis, knowing their faith will give them the answers and guidance they needed. They did not scorn those who left, quite the opposite really. They wished them nothing but good fortune and prosperous futures, for they will still always welcome to their homeland. Even the Idols themselves granted them boons to help them in their journeys.
As time passed, the now scattered Clans grew and prospered, reconnecting and spreading their knowledge among each other. Aegis' mother, Ancile, the eighth princess of the Kingdom dubbed The Ancillary, became rather close with a prince of a neighboring kingdom, Nemean, third prince of the Kingdom of Leo, quickly fell in love and were married. Not long after, their first born, Greater Aegis, became a living link between two of the largest Families that originated from The Aegis. During a celebratory festival, the Arch-Magus from both kingdoms gave her a gift. From her mother and family; the Aegis Pendant. A relic bestowed to the High Guardians that granted the wearer a terrifyingly powerful blessing from The Aegis itself; a moment of immortality, crystallizing the user and making them indestructible. From her father's family; the Shield of the Underworld. A testament to centuries of studding their new art simply known as Retaliation. The shield is imbued with a magic that turns an opponents power against them.
As she grew, so did her daring. All those born under The Aegis had a no fear, for they were ready to defend any and all in a heart beat. At the age of three, she was wrangling with her pet Lion Nemmy, besting it even when he did not hold back. At five, she thwarted the captain of the High Guardians, blindfolded no less. All while excelling in her teachings from both the Guardians and the Magus. She even went on to create a shield spell of her own, utilizing the energy of whatever impacts it to amplify it's strength, although it is still hard to maintain. Her parents, as all first timers raising a child are, were worried about her recklessness. It was not that she was making trouble and picking fights, she was always polite and respectful to everyone, but the way she threw herself at danger and were afraid there would come a time she could not handle herself and got hurt. Thus she lived a sheltered life for quite some time, never allowed to leave the castle grounds, and surprisingly, she never disobeyed. She knew it would pay off in the end, and she was right. After turning fifteen, her parents knew it was time to let her see more of the land, but not before giving her one last gift. A mixture of (donated) hides of a Namean Lion and Leviathan, A special cloak that hardened in the presence of danger, and utilizing the same magic as her shield, reflected some of the energy from opponents back at them.
She reminded them that she would return often, and her parents that she always would have her chambers ready, and so her own journey began. She trekked through both kingdoms and even to some of the more their distant neighbors, always lending a hand where ever she could. From there her legacy continues, as she travels the distant lands, making friends, learning more from her Idol and about herself, all to achieve her one goal...

To uphold the teachings of The Aegis, and protect all her Clansponnies from harm.
