Hello, everyone!  ^-^
There's something that has got my curiosity since I landed (yes, I landed, ok?  ovO ) in this fandom: ponysona.
I have my own, as a lot of other bronies, but I've always been curious of one thing: what are the reasons people make their ponysona the way they make it?
For example, the species: what make someone decide for a pegasus instead of a unicorn? Or a griffon instead of a earth pony?
I made my ponysona so that could look similar to my real self, as much as a pony me could resemble the human me, and a earth pony, because I don't like heights and flying and, useful and interesting as it is, I wouldn't do much with magic.
These are my reasons, but what about yours?
I'm not asking this because I'm searching for a "right" way to make a ponysona: I like mine, it speak of myself and I really worked on it.  <3
I'm just curious about the creative process  ^-^
Call it spirit research  :D

I chose pegasus because I've always wanted to be able to fly (not sure why). I'd find more enjoyment out of being able to fly than I would out of being able to cast spells. That's probably partially because I imagine memorizing spells would be kind of annoying, considering that sometimes I'm great at remembering things and sometimes I'm terrible at it. It really depends on what it is I'm trying to memorize, I guess.

Her eyes are brown because my eyes are brown.
I chose yellow coat and purple mane and tail because I think yellow and purple go great together. In other fandoms, I like to use yellow and purple, instead of white and black, to represent light and dark. But that doesn't have anything to do with my ponysona. I'm just saying, I seem to have grown a fondness for putting yellow and purple together.

I don't know where you are, don't even know your name.
They think I'm crazy, my heartbeat goes up..."

It isn't so strange, yellow and purple goes very nicely together  ^-^

When I made my ponysona, I had to look deep into myself to see who I felt I truly was.  I adore the idea of flight, and I really like the use of magic in numerous forms, but I felt that neither would really match me.  I felt that if I chose one of those, I would be living up to what I want, and not what I am.  I decided to go with an Earth pone because I felt it hold the untold, unique specialness that I felt I truly held within me as a person.  I would be an Earth pone who still adores the idea of flight and magic, but has no power to truly express such other than by means of Alchemy or similar.

That's the shortest way I could put it.

I chose unicorn for my ponysona because I've ALWAYS wanted magic powers, and I made my ponysona's "theme" water because I love water. (It's so underrated in video games, unless it's a water level. Hate those)
A self-proclaimed "jack-of-all-media-types". I tend to say "freaking" a lot.<br />My OCs: http://forum.legendsofequestria.com/index.php?topic=13316.0

I made my ponysona around a year ago and was one of the last pony OCs I created in here. Funny enough, it was one of the quickest one I created since his look, cutiemark and personality match mine. He has long brown mane because I have long brown hair, we share the same green colour of the eyes but the fur colours was a bit tricky. I thought of using a dark colour since I usually wear dark colour clothes on my usual. The cutiemark was tricky as well since I had to think about what could be my talent and how I could express it with a symbol. I consider drawing in general and playing music my talent but I thought that a music instrument or a paint brush but those are mostly overused so I went for something more symbolic. I noticed that I got more creative during night time and, for some reason, mostly during full moons so I made it his cutiemark.
For the race, I chose pegasus because, come on, look at those fluffy wings!
Spoiler: show

Also because I like the idea of flying.

Wow, how cute!  <3 And what a beautiful cutie mark!  :D

My Ponysona?
Well, I always loved magic, so I'd want to be a Unicorn.
But I don't like who I am, so I made him a Pegasus.

I dropped out of school and barely know anything.
So I made my Pegasus Ponysona unable to fly, 'cause he doesn't know how.

He's small, thin, and very weak.
Because I am! lol

His colors I just liked...lol

Why is he only a foal?
Well, I act like one, and it helps me hide my age...no one knows if I even am a foal, maybe I'm older, maybe I'm not.

All in all, every self flaw I have I give to my ponysona because it helps me accept myself more.
It's done wonders for my self esteem...still has a long way to go, but it's moving, which is what matters.
GO PONIES!

Sometimes it just comes down to personal preference. I think a lot of humans have always dreamt of the ability to fly ever since they were little kids, so of course they would choose Pegasi. Plus flight has always been associated with freedom or being a free spirit.

As for me, I chose an earth pony for my Ponysona. Not only is it an under-utilized race in the ponysona-making-world, but I like the idea of being closer to nature while being physically strong. <3 I've also been told that I'm pretty "down to earth".

Alternatively I can't decide if maybe I'm actually a pegasus but with wings too small for my big fat body lol

I never did decide on a proper color scheme for my pony though. Every time I try to figure something out, it either looks strange or looks like somebody else's OC.

Yay, ponysona! I'm glad you used the right term~ so many people say "my oc!" and while that isn't necessarily wrong, to me its more of an incorrect grammar type of thing. x3

That aside, my Ponysona is a Pegasus named Featherdust :) I chose a Pegasus because personally the idea of soaring through the skies is highly appealing to me. Her colors (a pink coat with a yellow and purple mane and tail), are my three favorites, and her eyes are blue like mine. Her cutie mark is a yellow feather, and instead of representing her talent, its more a symbol of her personality: kind, gentle and patient (I don't know if I'm like that, but people have said it I guess? Also I'm not really good at anything so... XDDD) I wanted my ponysona to be simple, nothing too crazy or extreme x3 she's pretty much your average Pegasus, her speed is a bit better than some, but nowhere on an RD level. She got her cutie mark after saving a baby bird once (I actually did happen to do that one time.)

Not every pony someone makes is a ponysona, though.
I have a ponysona and two OCs.
One OC is a unicorn named Mystic Mage who never grew out of the magic surge phase of infanthood. She works using her excess magic to charge and recharge enchanted items that need charging.
My other OC is a deaf earth pony named Silent Sky. She's a glass maker. I came up with the pony first, then sat around for weeks trying to figure out what her talent could be. Then, I looked at one of the glass humming birds I bought from Six Flags several years ago, and I thought "That's it!"
Neither of them is supposed to be me in the slightest, so I call them my OCs.

This is true- when I said that I had meant when everyone is actually talking about their ponysona, but just referring to it as "my oc." I myself have multiple oc characters, but I also have one ponysona. People tend to use the term oc for everything, when (imo) the correct way is "I have my ponysona, and many oc's as well." (of course, some people only have oc's, and don't have a ponysona.) I suppose I should've explained it better, my apologies. x3
Those are some cool oc's~ I like how they have some interesting talents, but also have a bit of a "flaw" as well, it shows that you can have some really awesome characters without them being perfect. My oc's are a bit like that, too- I have quite a few, so I'll just give a quick explanation of them:

Lyrical Charm: A blue Unicorn mare that absolutely loves music, and aspires strongly to one day be a DJ for a big name radio company. (a bit out of left-field for a place like Equestria, but I still like the idea anyway. x3)  Occasionally writes, makes music for and sings her own songs.

Thunder Spring: A green Pegasus mare that's always on the lookout for adventure- the longer and more risky it is, the better! Can hardly ever sit still, and is always trying to get one of her friends to go with her... but if she can't find anypony to do so, she won't hesitate to go off by herself.

Obsidian Quake: A black Earth Pony stallion, and also a demolition specialist. Although a bit reserved and quiet on the outside, once you get to know him you'll find that he has a heart to match his large build. Currently dating Strawberry Cream. Is also terrified of heights.

Strawberry Cream: A pink Pegasus mare. She loves to bake sweet treats, that she always insists are "made with love, because love is one of the most powerful magics of all!" When she's not baking you can find her practicing her flight skills, or spending time with her coltfriend, Obsidian Quake. Is also afraid of loud noises. (a bit ironic, these two that are dating and their fears XD)

Gear Spark: A brown Unicorn stallion and a genius inventor, Spark loves to build and create all kinds of new gizmos and gadgets. Sometimes he can get so immersed in his work, he'll forget to take a break and get some fresh air, or even eat at times. He has a rare muscle disease that makes him a bit weaker, but with the aid of his inventions he can do most- and in some cases even more- of what other ponies can do.

I even have a pic of them ^-^
