Pony Role Play

I've heard of pony role playing, but I was wondering if somepony could explain it to me.

Basically you create an OC, with a backstory, gender,appearance etc, and take the role of that character, playing through scenarios.  There are alot of RPs and OCs in the roleplaying section of the forums that can give you an idea on how it works
